General Information about Rodney

Why did you choose this commodity?
At the time I was a young lad and I had a Saturday job in the market and when a stallholder retired I took the stall on and have expanded the business from then.

Do you ever eat the sweets?
It's a bit like working in a cake factory you think oooh all those cakes I can eat, but after the first few weeks the novelty wears off but I still try all the new lines that come out.

What piece of advice would you give to someone thinking of becoming a market trader?

Choose your lines carefully. If you spot a line that is missing in a market ask yourself why is no one else selling it maybe that no one wants to buy it just because you like doesn't mean everyone else does and at the end of the day you have to make a living.

Tell us about your hobbies and interests:
Ten years ago I had gift of a parachute jump for one of my special birthdays and from that day on I became hooked on the thrill of the plane ride and then the adrenalin rush that you have as you jump from the plane. I suppose I have done about 20 jumps so I think that makes me a veteran jumper by now.

Do you listen to music if so what?
On a day to day basis I listen to the local radio station as it has a mixture of music and information on local events. However people are surprised when I tell them that my real love of music is for Northern Soul. I have been known to attend all night Northern Soul nights that are held locally, but these days they take a couple of days to recover from.

What three items would you take to a hot desert island and why?
I don't really like the sun so Suntan lotion to keep my skin form burning, a hat to keep my head covered and a magnifying glass. When I was a lad I was in the Boy Scouts and it is surprising what you can do with a magnifying glass.
